So basically it's your fault for owning an early HDTV?

They have basically said it's the consumers fault for buying a HDTV that does not accept a 720p input. Now if this wasn't bad enough, Sony themselves manufactured such hardware! It's almost like "I suppose we'll have to fix this then..." If I was a Sony consumer I'd disgusted with the arrogant and petulant attitude. rupbert |

I think you're taking it out of context. He was just pointing out that it wasn't the PS3 that couldn't display HD properly, it was the TVs that didn't support the resolutions the PS3 requires.

It should use any HD resolution that is used the majority of tv sets, if not in all tv sets.

The majority of HD tv sets use 720p. Very few only support 1080i. You're right, it should have worked with all HD resolutions out of the box. Fortunately they are now working on a patch to let it upscale and downscale correctly.

This is quite legitimately not Sony's problem. Upscaling is a quite separate function to rendering a 3D scene. To use an analogy, it's rather like expecting your car to go and pick your groceries because it got you to the store.
It could be argued that it's the problem of the people who wrote the games to support only one output resolution. Phil |

Well I guess most of the bugs will have been ironed out by launch, and a few revisions before I can afford one.
Considering it only affects some games suggests that it is the developers fault not Sony's.
