We were just looking at this yesterday in semiconductor physics - very cool stuff, and the next five years are going to be exceedingly interesting as we approach the tunneling limit and everything starts going quantum...

Sounds like welsh to me since I can't really remember much of my high school welsh I can't say what it means, other than I think there may be a place with the name.

Quite why a japanese group (who's R&D people work out of silicon valley?) is using a welsh word for a name .. well I'd be interested to know

And yes, definite one-upmanship there "don't buy theres! we'll have a better one in 6-12 months!"

Penryn is a town in cornwall, it's also a town in California, which I guess is more likely the origin. It's also the place name for about 1/3rd of welsh towns, villages, quarries, and rock types.

The Welsh word is actually spellt Penrhyn which translates to promontory, i.e. a peace of land sticking out to sea.

The best processor codename has already been used by Cyrix; "Jedi".

ahh

It's a new word to me and sounds odd as a town name (to me), but I suppose I have been to places with odder names.
