Wonder what new hard drives are coming out in Jan 07 .. I would like to see the price of the current 500GB and 750GB drives dropped.

Well, what did they THINK we need a 1 TB drive for?

I wish removable storage would catch up with hard drives though. It's a real pain in the arse to back up 100+ GB of data onto optical media, I don't have any idea about tape drives, and it's a headache. I'm thinking about getting a stand-alone NAS box and putting it out in the shop in case the house burns down.

Why not put an ide or sata internal in an external caddy and get some backup software to automatically do it?

I looked at that, but it doesn't really solve the problem, or rather it solves a problem I don't feel I have. I'm not too concerned about having the drive go out since it's already a RAID 1 array and the array is on a seperate physical disk than the OS so even if the OS gets borked or one drive dies I should be ok. What I'm more worried about is physical destruction (or theft) of the fileserver and having to reconstruct the data. I suppose I could physically bring a USB external drive to the fileserver periodically and back it up, but I would rather do it automatically.

lol, from the title i thought seagate had made a drive which you could competly wipe within a second, emergency porn deltion by a special external button or something :O

still it's basically true what he said... other than the 'buy' bit.

You have to admire his honesty, what is next? Michael Dell comes out and says our machines are going dual core so that you can have multiple porn movies running at one time?

Heh, it's funny because it's true. Hopefully he'll realise that some of us are still a bit unhappy with the sweetspot being 300/320GB drives and he'll do some work to get that up to 500.
