Church
After reading this article, being as I live in Southern California, you are pretty separated from everyone else. Everyone mills about doing their own private thing. Even people who come from other parts of the country are suprised at how segregated everyone is, and I don't mean in a race way, but just in a private way. Althrough I do find comfort in the church I volunteer tech services at regularly, and have for 10+ years now. That is also a family to me, with people I meet and know. So I get my social interaction, besides here and on the net, there, and that;s where most of my friends reside, with a few from college and work. Just my $0.02.

Very good article!
And it has something true for me. Since i started reading/posting here I moved 4 times to a new neighbourhood and I never really have the time to talk to my neighbours. But here are still the same people around and I feel kinda at home here (to some degree ) Thanks guys and a Marry Xmas everyone! P.S We need a Xmas smiley!

I would worry about the "Mr. Rogers" of the neighborhood. He was a little TOO nice, almost like he was hiding something...

The internet is great for keeping in contact with friends, when everyone goes away for school you can still talk even though we only see each other every once in a while. Merry Christmas and what not.

All I can say is absolutly. I'm much more connected to my Bit-Tech neighbors than I am to my actual ones. Before Bit it was a chat room on Yahoo. I've just always found virtual communities more interesting than the real ones.
I think we're starting to see some bleed-over though. I knew several couples in the chat room that met there, I met my oldest friend there, who I finally met in person two years ago (she lives in Australia), and one of my G/Fs coworkers met her significant other playing WoW. He moved to Washington from Alabama and they now live together. Another great thing about this sort of neighborhood is that you can take it with you. When I was in Mississippi with FEMA for three months last year, many on bit never knew I wasn't at home. I was still able to be a part of the conversations even though I was sitting in a motel room in Meridian MS. Personally, I find this a community much more to my liking. Happy Monday, neighbors.

Good article, i don't find it to be much like the article though, australians love barbeques, beer and cricket so being 20 it is one big happy family for now.
3-0 soon to be 5-0. Do the yanks have cricket? |
