[01/07] Winter's here, wrap up warm!
Entry two to this month's competition and a slightly different take on the theme. I figured instead of trying to capture winter itself - seeing as (excluding this morning) it's not very wintery out - I'd try and create the feeling of winter.
![]() Shot info available on the linked Flickr page. This is my first attempt at portrature and enjoyed doing it, and also learned a few things in the process. Quite pleased with the results, and hope you guys like it, too.

I really like that the colours are well balanced and the pose looks natural, excellent use of DOF. Good Show!

Interesting shot. How did you create that background? I love attempting portraits however I never seem to get them just right. Either the subject moves (throwing out the DoF) or the background itsn't right.
Any tips you learnt would be great ![]() Having said that I guess pook would be the best one to talk to.

Good exposure there, and I like the pose, too. In my opinion, to really push the "cold" idea she should have been wearing gloves.
As for the color, the overall color cast seems a little cool to me. Is that intentional? -monkey

Gloves might have been an idea but don't think we had any to match.
![]() The colour cast is quite cool. I shot with flash but white balance set to tungsten which gives this blue cast. I did later try processing it with the correct white balance but the resulting image was a very warm, quite high contrast, image that just didn't suggest coldness - in fact quite the opposite.

A little cool?? That's the idea: it's meant to be cold. She's looking out from under the layers. Gloves would be nice and would complete the look, but being able to see her fingers excentuates the semi-escapism.

Yes, I understand the fact that the cool tones add to the cold feeling. That's why I was asking if the effect was intentional, or just the accidental result of lighting.
I asked because I had the same thing in mind for the photo I was going to enter. -monkey
