Looks nice. I have 3 usb on my laptop one on the side and 2 on the back under a flap. I always use the one on the side as its easier to get too. If i had to use the 2 on the back id probably end up with it broken.

heh I just bought a Generic 2.5" USB box with a WD 120G in it. But rather than use it as is I'm going to swap the 20GB in my lappy with the WD in the caddy when I return to the UK.

so let me get this strait. it needs 1 AMP to run?! and its a 2.5inch laptop HDD?!!!

surely this cant be right? you generally only require 500mA to run a laptop HDD so the rest must be used to power the blue light!

or have a really missed a trick with this one?

Looks good, but my 80Gb Wester-Digital Passport drive only needs one USB port, and is slightly smaller, and cost under £50 from Amazon on a deal.

Still, i love my portable HDD, and if this gets people go buy them, then it all good.

Max Amperage (Amps?). Spinup power is significantly more than idle running.

USB is low voltage though (5.5v max?) so it'll probably be running it through a step-up transformer to double the voltage and halve the current back down to 500mA. (and in either case it's still consuming the same amount of power (W)).

Don't forget the power needed to power all that bluetooth/WiFi jiggery - that stuff isn't exactly low-power either...

I have this drive, and I was suprised to find out that it works with only one USB pluged in, or just a normil USB cable, atleast on a desktop. I'm going to try it on a laptop sometime.

Yea they work on 1 plug just fine most of the time, but you are maxing out that USB port.

You're probably safe, but remember that you're running on the ragged edge of what is and isn't supposed to be done, it's better off with 2.
