Nice review.

Another excellent article.

One thing that confuses me still is my inability to enable 'ultra' effects density & fidelity in COH.

Your framerates look very respectable but with these settings enabled, my rig (see sig) is brought to it's knees. Maybe they're particularly processor/RAM intensive but tbh, I would have thought the GPU would handle these.

its interesting to see the 8800 GTS 320 from EVGA actually beat the BFG 640 GTS in some of the tests. The fact that the BFG is the cheapest 640MB GTS probably reflects this.

Good review, but still doesn't answer my question about whether i should upgrade my Gainward Golden Sample 7900GS to a 320GTS or even a 640GTS.

Right now, in 32bit Vista Ultimate, i can't even get BF2142 to run above 10FPS, but in XP i get 70+ - darn Nvidia vista drivers.

Think i'll be sticking to my 7 series card for now, and see how the prices for 8800s and even 8900's pan out in 6 months time.

WTF - You've got X1950XTX and XT's in there, but no 7900GTX? Shameful! People are going to want to have their existing card directly compared to the new flock.

I can't quite believe it, tbh.

Brilliant review, let down by this shocking oversight.

Have to agree, it looks awesome.

Although I do like the backplates XFX are putting on their cards, looks really cool. Wouldn't mind my case (well, the insides and back panel, hell maybe even the whole case) made out of that.

I would really like to make the jump towards widescreen gaming, either with a 22" or a 24" screen, but then I've got to factor in that my 7800GTX probably won't be able to handle such high resolutions at full settings. Well, it can only really handle full settings at 1280x1024 if I have no AA on with some of the newer games like Medieval II.

I swear I've asked this before, but I can't remember the answer, sorry... is the eVGA ACS3 version any quieter than the 'stock' cooler?

Cheers.

Nice review!

But i still would wait for the 8900 series of cards. They are better, faster, proberly cheaper to make and the die is shrinked to 80nm (now its 90nm) so less heat and more overclockable.

As far as I'm aware, it's actually replacing the non-OC version, hence why it's cheaper.

It's still an expensive high end card. I'll wait till the the price cuts
ATI is also planning to release a dx10 card (something called R600)
