When you said "snapped" I thought you meant broken!

Trying to give me a heart attack Timmy?!

That's what I thought too! The best part is that it seems like snapping could be a real problem with all that copper and 24 W fans hanging from the poor PCB.

IMO Ati has already fuxored this one. Even if it will be faster than the 8800GTX (which it WILL hopefully), it's no good as it it launched six months later! It's just taken way too long to get the card even to this phase, and even now it doesn't seem like they'll be able to get those into markets before may? :duh: Makes me expect Nvidia already has something in their sleeve to throw to the markets by the time R600 comes out.

Yeeep it would be nice for ATi to show off the retail vapour chambered versions. (rumoured vapour chambered versions I should say).

The fact that they are finally showing it off means we must be close though which is good. May isn't too far away I guess, ho hum.

If I were to get one of these in my next upgrade I would want the OEM one. Surely it would be quieter than the retail one with that huge fan on the end.

It's about 13 1/2 inches long... so the first problem you'll have is getting it in your case.

As has already been said by you Tim, it's only a prototype, the production one will probably be the same as nVidias G80

The case I am planning on getting shouldn't have a problem swallowing it, a Lian Li V2000

Of course, but I'm fairly sure that this isn't just a prototype - it looks like it'll be used by OEMs (I've got a similarly long 7900 GTX sitting here...)

I think the cooling solution is the prototype to be honest. I think that the fan they've got on there will be relocated.

I can't see many OEMs using R600s, I think Dell are the only OEM with 8800GTXs?

aha but us builders could get them. OEM is supposedly the card we see here and retail is vapour chamber cooled from what I have read.

I think there are going to need to some sort of extendable support between the case floor and the end of the card to suppor the weight there don't you?

That is a monster of a card. I too like the rest of you jumped the gun and thought that it was snapped (broken). Just shows how many of us read things 2 quick and judge wrongly :p

I dont get it. I have seen the prototypes on 9 februari last month. ( See VR-Zone) So i dont see the news value of this post. As we all know this is the systembuilders OEM card. What really would impress me are the retail cards and dualcore R600 cards snapshots...

Tim needs to be more like Robin Hood and distribute all those cards we know you have amongst the populace :thumb:

But its nice to see they are showcasing working cards.

do you need to use both the PCI-E power connectors, or just 1
and what happens if your PSU doesn't have an 8 pin plug (do any have them yet ? :S)

Also is that a cooler or a vacuum cleaner on the end ? :eeek:

This is the first "official" shot I've seen since AMD actually let the photographer publish the pictures, everything else has been rumour.
