I always knew that DDR3 wasn't going to have a huge uptake. However I did think that they would be relatively fast due to the fast speeds on th GDDR3 front. What are the differences between GDDR3 and DDR3.

Somehow this makes little sense to me, DDR2 is two pieces stacked on top of each other and DDR3 is two pieces one on top of the other ? isn't that the same ?

Maybe the first is stacked ... And the other is more like two books on a table ? Both on the surface.

Not sure if that got the point across.

From what I can gather, DDR2 is like a two layered PCB one on top of the other within the same chip. Whereas DDR3 is two physicaly seperate chips stacked on top of each other.

This why I seldom get excited about a product (hardware or software) until it matures a little

Sorry, it's hard to explain. DDR2 cores are stacked like books but DDR3 cores is side by side. This is what Nanya do, it might not be universal to the industry. Ratchet has it correct.

Writing at 12am after being awake for 16 hours for 3 days on the trot doesnt make things hugely coherent.

My math says that's still 8 hours of sleep but I do know, from experience, how 16 hour work days can wear you down. Get some rest man.
