would be nice if AC sold this HS as a standalone unit. I run a 7950GT with stock cooling and have bemoaned the lack of decent aftermarket coolers. I know Zalman offer some nice solutions but I loved mu old AC NV5 that I had on my 6800GT with its external exhaust but none of their products mention compatibility with the 7950GT

a passive cooled graphicscard from the upper midrange? what should i think? i should prolly get excited... but, the 86xx series launch is just too close to get excited over a 79xx product.
other than that, it looks like a good product.

Hey Tim, I was wondering if you guys would ever consider putting S.T.A.L.K.E.R into your line-up of graphics card tests. I know that game, for me at least, is a major system hog, mostly on my video card.

why would you get 7950gt when you could save a bit and go for 8600 / 8800 GTS

Pah. I've got my silent XFX 7950 GT 512 MB right here. Not interested in SLi or overclocking, so it suits me just fine.

We'll be looking into it when both myself and Rich get back to the UK. There's a lot of work that I want to do on benchmark development, and that includes expanding our portfolio of benchmarks for CPUs, motherboards, graphics and so on.

Why is this a waste of money? For some people DX10 may not be their top priority compared to something like silence with decent gaming performance. There are a lot of people out there who don't spend their entire time at their pc playing BF2/CS/etc., but may still want decent gaming performance.

In reality are we actually going to see any real benefits on our screens in the next 6 months if we have a mid range card, considering that the non-hardcore gamer will not automatically go out and buy every latest game that has a DX10 path? They may well buy one or two games, but that alone is not a reason to upgrade as soon as the DX10 cards are out if you are not a constant gamer. This is especially so with this and the recent X1950Pro reviewed, considering silent solutions for the new cards wont be out for some months yet.

On the reviews, I miss the old version where it was easy to see the differences in quality between cards.

8600 GTS Reviews are showing up on the net today (nda is gone, so we can talk openly about what we know), and the top of the 86xx cards (the gts) is actually much slower than the 7950 GT cards ,
so, aslong as you dont need dx10 (alan wake is still far away (and crysis will force you to disable all the eye candy anyway to get a playable fps rate on curent midrange cards)),
the 79xx cards are currently still a good buy.....

edit:

i realize i said other stuff about the 86xx cards in an earlier post (same thread), but, well, the performance of the 86xx series is pretty disappointing compared to the 79xx cards. (the 86xx cards are between 76xx and 79xx cards performance wise(but to slow to replace the 79xx series)).

Looking at the reviews of the 8600 cards it looks like the 7950 performs better so I'm pretty keen to get one of these. Any word yet on when it will be available?
