There's no performance difference with running the Ultimate version of Vista compared to other versions... LOL.

8600GT? I wonder how this stacks up against the current top of the mobile gfx leaderboard the 7950GTX.

It says it can run Premium, doesn't say anything about the others, so how can you be sure?

Might have to hold off a laptop upgrade for a little bit then! Do you have any rough figures for battery life at all? If possible comparaisons to similarly specced "old" merom systems

Ultimate is only running slightly more services, Aero et al is exactly the same as it is on premium.

That's pretty difficult atm because by all accounts Vista does have some effect on battery performance, so any testing would have to be done on Vista and MobileMark - the benchmark for battery testing - doesn't currently work on Vista.

Just after a rough flavour, doesnt have to be anything scientific. Just a "bit better/loads better/crap" would do fine

Interesting stuff

I'm just hoping they don't build Robson / Turbo Memory / ReadyBoost directly on to the main board. I'd be willing to accept a little bit bigger laptop if it means this is put on modules that can be removed, replaced, or upgraded - if it's soldered onto the board I'm not interested

As for desktops you already got iRAM solution for very speedy harddrives, and you can put USB devices internally by doing some modding (e.g. hook a USB thumb drive directly to the pin headers on motherboard).

ExpressCard solution is also usable for ReadyBoost. And according to TrustedReviews you can look forward to 4GB, 8GB & 16GB ExpressCard SSDs From Lexar.
