Project: NNC upd 25-06-07 case work done
Here is a project from Russia with love, which had been started back in 2004 and is nearing completion, but should be interesting nonetheless.
The project would be written in Russian, complete with a translation by my good friend, who unfortunately has no knowledge of any slang that ones in the know might use to describe various things and would have to use his limited vocabulary. It began all the way back in 04 and due to various real-life problems had been interrupted several times. Moreover, I had a nasty crash and all the pictures I had of the earlier stages went away to a better world. Modding had been my hobby for a long time and I've done all kinds of things with both square and round windows, modding the printer into the case and other exciting things. Then one day I looked at my case and thought "why do 2d?". Initial brainstorming included acryl(?), but since it had become too mainstream for my taste I switched to alluminum. First stages used wires to anchor the secondary window, making it satisfiably flexible and had no net yet. I did it mostly to see whether the idea is viable and it lived up to my expectations. 8red +8 yellow angle 120 leds some later you see it in work   http://photofile.ru/photo/tjediai/2742716/53396880.jpg orig: Конечно же при создании тру формы боковой панели не обошлось без проблемм, ввиду того что корпус был сделан из достаточно мягкого металла в расверливании одного из отверстий, метал зажевало, что повело искривление панели... и хоть панель можно было ставить штатным способом (способом предусмотренным производителем), решено было установить боковые петли, что повело за собой удаление крепежных крючков панели, некоторых элементов корпуса и обрезание болтов и установка фиксаторов... ...в свою очередь в дополнении сильвер цвета полированного цвета следовало подобрать второй и был выбран голди цвет...и кузов выкрашен в него translation: Like with any other project, there were of course problems while I was making the case. Because it was made out of such a soft metal, it got caught up at some point during drilling which led to some twistage of the panel. Despite the fact there was an option of installing the panel using factory(i.e. forseen by manufacturer) methods, I decided to install hinges instead, which would only happen if I remove the attachment hooks from the panel, some elements of the case, cut off some oblts and install fixators(?). тут о верхней панели... в общемто было два варианта окошка, но тут прдпочтение 3д было оставленно и реализованно 2д окно, аналогичной формы. тут можно наблюдать как резался алюминий фрезой с помошью рашн монеток, которые были специально сделанны для моддинга и имеют диаметры 15 и 20 =) в остальном этот этап был не сложным, не считая того что я просверлил свой большой палец 6мм сверлом на сквозь, но вобщемто забинтовал и продолжил действо trans And then I started working on the top panel. I had a couple of options in mind, including a 3D one, but decided to go 2D instead, while keeping a similar shape. Here are some pictures of how I went around shaping the aluminum using highly advanced precision tools, Russian coins, which have respective diameters of 15 and 20mm. On the whole, this step was not all that challenging and went relatively smoothly, with a sole exception of me drilling a hole through my thumb with a 6mm drill. в общем то передняя панель ничем не отличалась от других разве что пришлось рассверливать уголки(жуль эт не переводи эт для тебя, уголок элемент крепежа, Аля мебельный металлический) тк стандартное отверстие 3 а требуемое мне 5 сверление уголка доставляет много неудобств, поэтому поместил между двумя досками, и чтоб они не цеплялись за сверло прижал третьей сверху. Ну кроме того конечно же был изготовлен декор, но в последствии пришлось отказаться от оного и отдать предпочтение более простому. Что касается электронной части панели, то вместе с внушительной(можно перевести как большей) частью переднее панели я удалил кнопки паур резет. В общем то и индикаторы тоже, которые были заменяны на зеленый 20мм диод для индикации power желтый двух сегментный для хдд (он перемигивается половинками) и 4ре зелено красных диода для индикации того же хдд. Кнопки питания и павер перенесены на пром пульт, с блокированием их замком(размыкающий замок для радиоэлектронной аппаратуры(можно в скобках не переводить, эт пояснение)), естественно установлена подсветка всей передней панели синими диодами (10х10mm) с выключателем. И chargrafical display, который сейчас заменен бегущей строкой. trans The front panel was not a whole lot different from any other generic panel. Except that I had to do some drilling around corners, because standard holes have a diameter of 3mm instead of needed 5mm. This is a rather tricky process, so I had to put it between two boards and reinforce it with a third one so that none of them interfere with the drill Of course I made some decor, which I later discarded in favor of something more simple. As far as electronics part of the panel goes, I had to cut out a considerable chunk of it, along with power and reset buttons. Indicators had to go too and were replaced with a green 20mm diode for power, a double-segmented yellow one for hdd and 4 more green-red diodes for that same hdd. Buttons were put on controlbox and an option to block them was added. And yes, there is, of course, illumination for the front panel made with 10x10mm diodes and a switch.
