What colour PCB do you prefer?

After talking to a few manufacturers at Computex, quite a few seemed interested to know if black was the only colour people liked. After all, they want to set themselves out from the crowd but green is considered kinda old hat but far more easily seen by the SMD machines.

Anyway, what colours do you prefer. If it's not listed, then let me know. You can pick more than one too

Black, black, and more black. Tell them to stop using stupid colors on their motherboards for all the plastic crap too. At least pick one color or something that matches the rest of the motherboard. Red pcbs would be ok too depending on the mod and saphire's white ones are sorta cool as well.

well the coloured plastic is there to help functionality, but you can generally get away with using just two colours since the shape of the ports sorta gives things away most of the time.

i actually agree, black is nice. a pure black and white motherboard (i mean purely black and white here, no colours to be seen, not even on the caps!) would be sexy as hell. white is nice too, shame the sapphire boards weren't really prolific.

Yeah I'd lie to see more black especially with the 8800's, I really don't want a green pcb card in my up and coming mod :/ I know there are black 8800's but their mainly on the stupidly overpriced cards from bfg and xfx :/.

Surely it can't cost that much to die some pcb ?

Though If there was white 8800, I'd just have to have it

Frank: it's not about cost it's all about what's available. The SMD machines that put all the stuff on the boards only see certain colours, and only a few companies make the PCBs for everyone (afaik). Coloured ones are in less demand and as such are made in limited batches, so it either becomes a custom job (costs a lot more) or you can't guarantee that future products will also be the same colour.

That is, so far as I've been told.

I told them to buy a few dozen colours and just sell a range.

Anything that isn't black, green or a skanky brownish colour (like the mobo in my linux box) TBH.

Matte/satin Black

I like the colouring of my old MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum mobo, matte black with nice brightly coloured connectors and sockets.

Don't care. Would rather have money spent on better design/components rather than a fancy blue neon PCB with flashing lights and glowing. Bung stuff on the cheapest PCB (of a decent quality) and spend the extra on bits that matter
Black's a nice color, agree with fibre - the matt black of the neo2 was awsome. Shame it didn get shown off more.

Yeah, this is true. The brand new pick and place machines at work find it difficult to deal with colours other than green and end up working a lot slower. The old machines just refused to place components. Darker colours need loads more fiducials all over the board to avoid getting lost and to tell it that there is even a board there! but even then it has a fit trying to get the components centred on their pads.

It depends on the theme of the case, tbh. I mean, if the case has a blue theme then obviously the best PCB colour choice would be blue (or black). I'm the kind of person that has to match colours when designing something, so a PCB colour would be included in this colour-matching process.

Im a big fan of the white/cream on the sapphire pure boards, if only they would put more than 1 pci slot on them

The problem is when you have a blue mobo, red gfx, green pump relay and black soundcard :P

Black or Dark Blue.

However, a Silver PCB would be nice!

Also, AFAIK Foxconn make lots of PCB's and ports for motherboards and graphics cards.
