Nintendo 64 Tie Interceptor mod

http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2007/06...erceptor_mod/1

It may be a little crude by the standard of bit-tech readers, but the Nintendo 64 Tie-Fighter mod appeals to a special place in all our hearts.

Actually, that isn't a TIE Interceptor or a TIE Fighter.

It's the TIE Advanced X1 Prototype. Flown by Darth Vader at the Battle of Yavin when the first Death Star was destroyed by the farmboy. It was the basis for the later TIE Advanced. It had one major advantage over the Eyeballs (TIE Fighters) and Squints (Interceptors) it had shields.

Exactly what I was about to say Paradigm.

Looks like an awesome mod to me, a bit big perhaps, but definately very cool.

The basic way to tell them apart is:

TIE: Square wings
TIE Bomber: Two Cockpit pods with angled wings
TIE Interceptor: Pointy wings
TIE X1: Angled wings, unpointed, with Darth at the helm.

I love Rogue Squadron...

Yep, it's also called the Imperial Tie Fighter in some places too.

Can you point me in the direction of somewhere that refers to the TIE Advanced X1 as an Imperial TIE Fighter? A quick google didn't turn anything up other than the TIE Fighter.

The TIE Advanced X1 shouldn't really be called the 'Imperial TIE Fighter'. All of the Empire's TIEs are 'Imperial' but the TIE Fighter is the simple one with a small ball-pod and hexagonal wings around it. The TIE Bomber was a twin-pod craft with canted wings, with one pod containing the pilot and the second containing torps or thermal detonators, dependent on it's designated role at the time - torps for anti-ship runs, thermal detonators for anti-ground runs. In the games they could also be equipped with concussion missiles, space bombs etc.

...

Man, I love this mod, though! It's been so long since I exercised my Star Wars geekdom - since Episode 1 came out, my interest in Star Wars has all but died...

Episode 3 was pretty good if you ignore the love story.

Well, all 3 prequels were pretty good if you ignored the story

Not sure what the pink bits on the front are all about, though - maybe Darth Vader was going through a gay phase?

I don't think that's pink, per se, just not as blue-grey as the rest of the plastic. The camera isn't quite set right for the lighting conditions either, I expect...

And... the prequels... good? That's like saying that cyanide is good for you. I realise that some things are set in stone (like the fact that Anakin Falls) but Ep 3 in particular was a horrendous let-down - whiny emo teenagers do not good anti-heroes make. Not helped by the fact that Eps 1 and 2 hardly set it up to be any good.

Too bad the original trilogy couldn't be salvaged by ignoring parts of it.

I don't know, I think a decent paint job and that mod will be a lot better. Episodes 1 and 2 were AWFUL. Ok, well Episode 1 was awful and episode 2 was better but incredibly boring. Episode 3 was good, though.

Exactly what I thought. They weren't as good as the first 3, but that's just the way it is. It's nice to see a Star Wars film with a properly epic battle scene (and of course General Grevious, who died far too easily imho).

The Darth Maul fight scene in Episode 1 was pretty awesome in my opinion. The rest of the movie around it may have sucked, but that is probably my favorite fight scene in all of the Star Wars movies.

The mod is pretty sweet, I would keep my N64 hooked up and in view for people if it looked like that, which would lead to me playing it more often again.

That is awesome, I saw a different version with all the Star Trek ones on it before.

I never realised how much bigger the Executor class Star Destroyers were, that's a seriously awesome ship.
