Microsoft adds heatsink to the 360

http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2007/06...sink_the_360/1

Microsoft is finally addressing cooling issues for the 360, by sneakily adding a heatsink to the interior.

This is a day to mark!!!

I have recently bought a 360, after just 3 months the lense went on the optical drive, had a replacement. The system is unreliable but it's a gr8 console, if this heat pipe 'n' sink works then all good but I hope they do this to all consoles to come, coz I have a feelin' a replacement will be needed before my 12 months are up.

I guess it will defiantly be on the elite model. And yes about time Microsoft adressed this problem.

Yeah, my friend's 360 has been acting strange lately. I think it's got to do with the harddrive because it has been hickupping tremendously and it's also been saying (Clean Disk/Disk Error) when playing a demo off of the hard drive. I don't know if heat has been the cause to any of it, but I know that it could choke any day now and all of our Guitar Hero II saves will be gone (except for our Live stats), but still that's gonna suck.

He needs to delete the demo and re download it. that solved the problem for me when i had that.

I don't believe the elites that were released in May have the new heatsink I dont remember seeing it in the engadget photos when they took theirs apart. The only thing i remember was the epoxy around the chips.

Isn't that lawsuit you linked to a complete pile of bullshit since the house burnt down before the 360 had even been released? That might be a different one though.

The elite does not have this new heatsink. The problem was the heat was melting the thermal compound causing the heatsinks to lift away from the gpu/cpu. On the elite they epoxy'd the heatsinks down around the edges so there is no way to lose contact.

So if i own a "old" x360 and call ms. And ask for a heatsink upgrade. Will they do it?

Nope, cause M$ = greedy. If they weren't then they would've added it originally or so you'd think.....

If you are really woried about cooling your X-Box 360 then there are liquid cooling options that you can look into , or just replace the thermal past your self and you can even try and find the new heatsink on ebay or something like that
