Are you looking to buy a mid-range DirectX 10 card?
Only after bit (hopefully) does a round up review

No mention of the 1GB 2900 XT using the same GDDR4 chips?

ATi Drivers suck so my next GFX card will probably be an Nvidia unless AMD/ATI overhaul their Drivers/catalyst.

Having seen some 2600XT and 2400XT benchmarks from Anandtech, they are apparently weaker then the 8600s in every DX9 game they tested with the exception of Rainbow 6: Vegas where the HD 2600XT was close to the 8600GTS. Sort of depressingly low performance especially the 8600s have been considered to be underwhelming in performance.

It might be Drivers problem.Have u seen those benchmarking results on inquirer when they used 2X8800 GTX in SLI and they benchmarked Rainbow Six Vegas which gave only 40 FPS?
I think the same is here!

It certainly does. The high-end 1GB 2900 XTs come with their core and memory frequencies overclocked by default. It can put up a very good fight against an 8800 GTX 768MB. Recently, Falcon Northwest released their newest flagship Mach V whose dual 1GB 2900 XT package crushed their previous dual 8800 GTX configuration.
