ATI X1100 vs X1300
I'm currently looking at two Acer laptops to buy, one with Ati X1100 gfx card and the other with X1300. The laptops are 150€ apart, at 600€ and 750€ respectively. The X1300 is obviously a lot faster, but I'm wondering if it's that much faster to justify the extra 150€.
I'm not buying the laptop for any serious gaming (obviously, at that price range) but I'm hoping to do some casual gaming with some older games, eg. Counter-Strike and C&C Generals. The question is the X1300 can run those games so much better than the X1100 as to justify the cost? Thanks in advance. |

the x1100 is actually the Xpress 1100 which is a chipset for the computer. I haven't been able to find any graphic card that ati has ever put out under the "x1100" name. the x1300 however does exist as a mobility product and not as a chipset. this is the information I got from the website. As such, unless the Xpress 1100 computer comes with an additional video card then my money would be on getting the pc with the x1300.
if you could provide me with links to the computers on the acer website then I could look up a little more info for you. |

Yes the X1100 is actually the integrated graphics on the Radeon Xpress 1100 chipset, and from what I hear, uses the X300 chip. For sales reasons it's more often than not referred to as the X1100 in most stores here. It's found on the Acer Aspire 5100 series.
For what I know it matches the Intel GMA950 in performance. I also know that X1300 is several times faster. What I don't know is how good that actually is in absolute performance, ie. can either card handle games like Half-Life or Generals? And while X1300 is a lot faster, is it fast enough to run games like Half-Life 2 or Total War? Last edited by Exel; 2nd Jul 2007 at 08:06. |

An x1300 will probably run Total War, and will run HL2, but depending on the model and native resolution, you'll have to turn down the effects. If the laptop is a widescreen ratio of any kind, that means turning it down a lot. Try running the games in windowed mode for a performance boost. That's what I did on my ATI x600 laptop before the video card died.

Thanks for the replies. I ended up buying a model with an X700 at a real bargain price. I think it'll suffice for more than I had hoped for.
