Zotac GeForce 8800 GTX AMP! Edition

http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/200..._amp_edition/1

New kid on the block Zotac recently sent us its current flagship GeForce 8800 GTX AMP! Edition card. We run it through the bit-tech gauntlet to find out if it's a force to be reckoned with.

Doesn't seem to be worth the £50~ above the non overclocked version of the same card from the same manufacturer. Good to see more stuff coming out tho

With a bog-standard GTX costing About £320 on Scan, £70 for some overclocking really isn't worth it. However, the HFS design looks cool.

For that much you can get 2x 320Mb 8800 GTS's. What would be faster, a single GTX or SLI GTS's?

I'd personally go with a single GTX, more consistent performance across the board

Agreed. Hell the 8800 series is selling like hotcakes and ATI are nowhere near them in terms of performance (at the top). Would you cut prices and get less profit if you were in their shoes?? I know I wouldn't

As PC Partners learned it is better to switch then fight. For those asking for lower pricing on the GTX of any make, why should they drop in price when the real big sales of these cards are just around the corner with DirectX10 games?
Nvidia and its partners are waiting for all of the early adopters of the G80 family to play their first DirectX10 games, hype the benefits of a DirectX 10 card over a DirectX 9 card and then start producing double or triple the amount of GTX and GTS cards. The true price drops will not come until the initial DirectX 10 sales run is over.

What I can not understand is how the Crossfire addition of the HD2900 XT could have such low minimum frame rates but still have higher average frame rates in most of the games over the Nvidia cards? It would lead me to believe when gaming with the XT's in CrossFire your gaming will be all over the place with lagging in places and smooth in others and the stated average frames will mean nothing at all in areas of the game that are very taxing.
