AMD goes modular with Bulldozer

AMD is going for a modular system when making its CPUs in the future, with new cores named "Bulldozer" and "Bobcat".

but seriously, i don't see how this helps, it just means that we will end up with hundreds of marginally modified CPU's, and CPU codes (or whatever you call them) are already cryptographic

Nice in theory, but far too many variables to really even guess at how it will come out as of yet I think.

I can see the server side doing well though, cutting back on the costs by reducing things that aren't needed and allowing servers to be designed for and expanded around a given role instead of being stuck with standard configurations and bottlenecks you can't get past without upgrading the whole thing.

modular is interesting.... as long as they don't do the same mistake as intel did with the socket P3.
