Nokia issues recall on mobile phone batteries

http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2007/08...ne_batteries/1

Pop your battery out of your mobile and check the model number. Nokia has issued a recall due to overheating issues.

I had two of these batteries, one could be replaced, one doesnt need to be. To be honest, i was hoping they both would need to be replaced because the ones im using now are a bit knackered

Hmmm interesting, my phone happens to use the BL-5C but have not noticed it overheating when charging. Even though the battery tends to still work for about 3 days from a full charge, I think I shall still try blag a new one, just in case

EDIT:So after checking on nokia site, my main battery is not entitled to a replacement, but my spare from an older phone is, so will get that swapped out for a nice new shiney one =]

Mine isn't elligible because it's made in Hungary instead of Japan
Sucks because my battery heats up a lot when charging

I saw the headline and hoped maybe the BL-5X was recalled due to NOT EVEN LASTING AN ENTIRE DAY WITH MODERATE USE (ie, mine conked out on me at 10pm yesterday, with around an hour of talk time, ffs)

ah well, exploding is more fun I guess

The one in my current phone doesn't need replacing but the one in my old phone which I donated to work does.

Er, yes and a hologram. It'd be a bit dumb to try and send back a fake battery wouldn't it? I guess some genius has tried though.

Legitimate Nokia batteries are made in a few countries, including Hungary.

that was my first thought when i've read the headline... but sony is not the only one that can produce faulty batteries.
