All we need now is for Warner to get a large cash injection from the HD-DVD camp and it'll be all but over (sort of)
I just really wish it would stop being dragged out so much now and that they'd just get the hell on with it.

Apparently HD-DVD claims they aren't competing with Blu-Ray (lol), but they are obviously working backdoor deals for Studio to suddenly decide that the dominant selling format isn't worth it all of a sudden. Do most people even use all the features of a DvD as is to warrent side by side view of 300 in regular and then the blue screen filming? I know I didn't care to see it.

One chap on Blu-ray.com suggested to his fellow blu ray fanboys that they should "Boycott Paramount!" seems easy enough given that Paramount is boycotting them.

As an owner of both PS3 and Xbox 360 elite w/ the HD-DVD add on, and a consumer, there is no logical reason why most consumers would pick the blu-ray format. The players are more expensive, the movies are showing up with less extra features, and Wal-Mart will be backing HD-DVD through the holiday. Blu-Ray may have more disc space, but if the makers of the discs aren't utilizing it, what is the point of having it. After watching films on both formats you can't really tell the difference between the two, so the cheapest wins out. Plus even if HD-DVD were to fail, because they are selling the discs as dual format, you could still watch the DVD in the Blu-Ray player, not something you could do with Blu-Ray discs.

he (Michael Bay) lays into Paramount, "I want people to see my movies in the best formats possible. For them to deny people who have Blu-ray sucks! They were progressive by having two formats. No Transformers 2 for me!"
Thats the best news Ive had all day! Hopefully they will give it to someone who will make a movie actually about the transformers and not about 20 random Americans with a couple of robots thrown in.

What's up with that $150 million "promotional consideration" that HD-DVD gave Paramount to help them consider making the switch?

You know, I wouldn't mind a little "promotional consideration" to use HD-DVD over Blu-ray...

I'm not going to upgrade until this format war settles down, I thought it might get to the stage where the two big boys get firmly entrenched and see who can last it out, it looks just like its going that way. I doubt Sony will take another hit like they did with Betamax, its going to be interesting how this one turns out.

I was keeping an eye on the dual format players myself, it seemd like the sensible option.

Which isn't actually true, you can get HD-DVDs that have 50Gb of space.

veles theres an catch there the disk needs to be tripple layer to get 51gb on HD-DVD (15gb/30gb)
BD on the other hand is 25gb/50gb/75gb(but it may be 100gb not sure)

i am prefer BD to win here as with the DVD + and - war went on it did not matter as Both disks are the same size this time thay are not

i think its Paramount and Dreamworks loss not supporting both formats as thay lose alot of money as an 2:1 ratio of sales of BD to HD-dvd your missing an big market (not much stoping us from converting HD-dvd into an BD disk as it will fit easy on an BD disk)

And in the end, we the consumers, are happily playing both br and hdvd on our 'made in asia' hybrid hd-dvd/blueray players and recorders. Just like the dvd+ and dvd- wars.

But we will not be happy with the prices of both formats, because the wars have cost so much they want the war bribe investments back, and the only way they will get it, is via the consumers...

So for us, its a win/lose situation.

Wasn't really a war, more a cold war, they both had bombers up in the air 24/7 encase one of them made a move though.

Well, Mr Bay has a meeting with Paramount and has apparently changed his mind:

I heard where Paramount is coming from and the future of HD and players that will be close to the $200 mark which is the magic number. I like what I heard.

As a director, I'm all about people seeing films in the best quality possible, and I saw and heard firsthand people upset about a corporate decision.

So today I saw 300 on HD, it rocks!

So I think I might be back on to do Transformers 2!
...or they've made him change his mind!
