This only pleases me because US Apple employees got free iPhones at US launch and I'm a UK employee already on O2. When I put two and two together I get a pretty hopeful 'YES PLS FREE PHONE THX'.

Doubt it - the US plan is pretty reasonably priced, especially considering what people were expecting plans to be. Apple doesn't want to scare people off because of high monthly fees on top of the already high price for the unit itself. I'd say it's worth it having owned one since day three or so, but they'd certainly sell more if it was cheaper.

But my bill is $60/month which includes unlimited data and rollover minutes, which isn't too bad by any means. More than I'd like, but so is anything over $10/month considering their costs. Oh well, it's not unreasonable considering the competing prices.

Didn't Apple only extend this free iPhone to employees working for over a year or something? Or is my mind creating memories again...

No, you are correct. I'm extending my fantasy to the fact that it's a new store though.

(don't worry, there is no logic in my fantastical assumptions really)

It's not about bashing it, it's about not giving a ****. This is bit-tech, we here like computers. The iphone is just a fricking phone. There are phones out there with better functions, but we don't hear a bazzillion stories about them now do we? I don't give a flying **** about phones frankly. If I was into them I'd find a phone enthusiast website, I don't want to see half of every tech websites front page dominated by Iphone stories simply because the apple cult (I typed another 4 letter word beginning with C there by accident  - freudian slip) won't STFU about it.

I'm bashing it, and I've never used it.

This is probably because I use a phone for phone calls. I spent a whopping $50 on my phone. This phone is $600, and I would use it for the same thing. It's called wasting your money.

But go ahead, what do I care.

I for one welcome our new shiney plastic koolaid drinking overloards...

no, in all honesty, i'd love one... so i could sell it on ebay, make a mint, and buy a pretty decent phone for a tenth of the price... (running away from Nokia's after my 6280 experience!!!)
