Zalman RS6F USB Surround Sound Headphones
http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/200...d_headphones/1
Surround sound headphones are a controversial subject among true audiophiles, but Bit-tech is no coward and has plunged headlong into the issue by reviewing a pair of Zalman's latest headphone effort. How do they fare? Check out within!

I find that two transducers in a set of headphones with a good binural recording, can give you a better sense of surround sound than actually labeled SS headphones with more than two drivers.
AKG 501, end.

A Photo of said product would be nice.

I used to use the old version of these when I played cs competitively. Back then, they were amazing I thought. I could pinpoint sound extremely easily, much better than anyone else in my clan, and i got them incredibly cheap off overclockers.
However, i'm not an audiophile and I much prefer my proper surround sound to the point where i never really wear headphones any more .EDIT: The non-USB Zalman's, which come without the volume toggle and things, set you back £20 on Overclockers. An incredible bargain if you ask me .

I'm after a pair of headphones for gaming. I've been advised that the Steelsound 5HV2 are probably one of the best to go for. Anyone got any other ideas or recommends?

You had problems opening the dome?
Done it three times (i have a rabbit who likes to eat cords from time to time) and it takes under 10sec to get it open with just my fingers. But some things i agree with, the design ain't the best (all my friends say they look like the legs on an AT-AT walker), sometimes they feel uncomfortable on my head (mostly because of the weight and sheer size, cup design is great though). I would say that you sometimes notice the 5.1 effect over other headsets and they are cheap but the design feels strange and flim and all your friends will wonder that is you have on your desk. Ahh well, i still have my dome helmet for viva Pinata... |

Just a stupid question. Since those headphones are USB connected they won't use your sound card right ? I mean, will I be able to switch modes with my x-fi and all that ?

that volume control - argh, buttons bug me - I always want to volume to be between two 'notches', and why couldn't those buttons just be on the cups, and wth do you need an LED for?!
PS - there's a typo in the last link on page 1 (though the link itself is great!).

In my experiance, (I had a surround sound headset by zalman and someone else) they break very, very easily. They just fall apart.

A couple of questions. First, how is it compared to other surround sound headphones, like the Speedlink Medusa? Is the whole concept a bit flawed, or is it just the Zalmans? And one more thing, why do we in the UK have to pay for almost twice the price than if we bought the same product(s) in the States?

A friend of mine had a set of medusa 5.1's. The microphone went rubbish pretty quickly and I don't think they were that comfortable. For the price corners must be cut for 5.1
