Gigabyte 3D Rocket II
http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/200...3d_rocket_ii/1
It's the best Gigabyte cooler you can currently buy, but will the blue heatsink Rocket II shoot for the stars or fall to earth with a pop and a whistle?

The original 3D Rocket had decent performance for it's time due to one big difference: Rather than having two fans blowing air past fins, hoping that the pressure difference would suck the air inward, it actually had a pretty beefy squirrel cage fan in the middle, forcibly sucking air through them. It may have been louder, but it worked.

Hm. Personally the graphics on the front mounting look startlingly like the ones on my dishwasher.

Do both fans pull air and fight each other through the fins? If that was the case, I would bet better cooling. If they where not, and just "blowing on the mobo" it would suck.
I may have missed that in the article.

Ahhh a review of the gigabyte coolers, I was curious to how they stacked up against others.
![]() I used to use the Rocket 1 pro which used copper fins and heatpipes unlike the Rocket 2 which uses aluminium! ![]() I think Gigabyte would have done a lot better if they had continued from the Rocket pro version, and continue to use copper

i was the other day about to buy a G-power cooler from these guys.... it is very nice and had very good reviews for its time.
this rocket cooler could have been better.... it needs to be redesigned. and the Volar looks interesting but somewhat familiar.... like a 775 stock cooler but inclined... http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/...ductName=Volar

hmm how rough does the base look. I guess you could hand lap it and get a few extra degree's shaved off.

Why did it only get a 5/10 for performance? The tests show that it cooled the CPU 3 degrees lower compared to the other coolers. This baffles me =\

Only on it's highest fan setting. So it's probably trading off noise for cooling, and not actually being efficient.

![]() Unless you enjoy sitting next to a jet engine (high fan) I'd buy the Max Orb on low or the Arctic Cooler for a fraction of the cost. The 3D Rocket II on low is second from bottom in performance. The graph is based on Delta-T, which is a difference between recorded CPU temp and ambient air temp. If the air temp is lower the CPU temp will be lower, so you have to go by the difference to keep everything fair
