AMD accuses Nvidia of cheating

http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2007/09..._of_cheating/1

AMD has accused Nvidia of using an aggressive noise reduction algorithm in order to help garner a perfect score in Silicon Optix's HD HQV benchmarks.

looks like you accidently pasted an extra phrase in the middle there

"and offer (could force AMD to offer adjustable settings in its own driver package. )a 0-100 percent noise reduction slider that can be adjusted by users."

Im a big fan of AMD myself, mainly cause i have never liked Intel much, but i have to agree unfotunatly. It does seem they are lashing out with no real basis for it. Its a shame, but time will tell wether its "an old tiger sensing the end" or just childish games.

So the challenge here for both companies was to create a video processing system using hardware and software. Where has nVidia cheated by using aggressive noise reduction in their (software) driver? Is AMD saying that it's not true video processing unless it's done in hardware?

But to be honest I'm with the crowd so far AMD are just really bitter and spiteful with their current situation.

Gotta agree, the Intel thing seemed to be true, and I'm no fan of either company, but AMD seemed to have better business practices, but now? Suing all their competition? Just lame.

OMG, all this really points to is that nVidia has better drivers by allowing adjustments for these noise reduction algorithms. So AMD is mad because nVidia is smarter and has more user friendly drivers?

ever since AMD bought ATI ... things have been going downhill. The first time I saw green on the ATI website, my canadian pride got hurt... badly

what do you want them to do? they inherited the design when they bought them, there would be very little they could do in the time they owned ATI (esspecially with Admin issues etc). any time spent improving the design would have lead to a later release and we all know how late it was already it wasnt AMD's fault it was ATI's besides performance is actually pretty good now.

anyway back on topic

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=157297

can you honestly tell me that should get 100 in an image quality test.

yes its quite petty but still if the 2000 series is better at something it deserves a better score so it can market it

what if AMD where to release a driver that meant it could get 25% more FPS in all games but the image quality went to **** (i'm sure they could do this if they wanted) would it be allowed to be call these benchmarks for advertisement i would say no

Its pathetic, instead of wasting their time accusing Nvidia they should get working on something that will get them back in the market a bit more.
