I get the impression that it's dieing, but I think the light should be lower, like it's failing on it.

I like the concept, but I'm not sure about the execution and processing. Overall, I think the use of heavy saturation and contrast are good for this image, but there's just something odd about the way it's presented here. I can't quite put my finger on it. It may be that the extremely shallow depth of field makes the object hard to see, given the high contrast. Though, that may enhance the idea of an old object fading away. I could go either way on that.

I really like the background; the different tones make it interesting, and the bokeh keeps it from being distracting. However, I'm not sure why you chose two colors of fabric for the foreground.

Pretty good concept. So...what the heck is that thing?

It's an old oscilloscope I built years ago.

I like where you're trying to go with this, but maybe if the light source was directly above, casting some interesting shadows on the image, and also if it was black and white.

That's an oscope? Jeez, unlike any one I've ever seen before.

Anyways, like supermonkey, I'm kind of up in the air on this one. Something's odd, but it seems like it should be right. Dunno - in any case, it should be interesting to see what other entries we get this month.

Seems to be a bit affected by compression (blocky).

I, like everyone else, like the idea but something isn't quite right. any chance you could re-shoot it?!

Everything but the composition works for me, love the colours/saturation/contrast. I just am not feeling that angle at all.
Background/foreground works well too.

I might replace it with this attempt, just trying out some different stuff before I decide.

2nd shot definetely better.Phototechnically wise the first shot is great but the comp is just too flat... Theres no story/focus movement (imho).

Though there might be something odd about the first shot, I definitely prefer it over the second. The latter's just too arranged and a big area of empty space. I think the first shot is interesting but just not quite interesting enough. I think DOF is just too shallow, and the split colour table is a little distracting. Great back ground, though. Looks like colorama?

Like Hwulex, I prefer the first shot. However, I think there's something Monkey said about the DoF being a little too shallow. I *THINK* I figured out what the problem with the image is for me, at least. My eyes are pulled to the left side of the image, where the bright white is. Mentally, I want that first group of solder points (closest to the camera) to be in focus, because it's where my eyes are immediately drawn to in the image.

I think the problem with it is that you're using a dark background, which means your eyes will focus on the brightest points first. Though both are framed perfectly (left 1/3, right 1/3), neither is in focus. Were you to move the field back a bit or invert the background scheme to be light with the dark oscilloscope, it would look much better. Right now, it's like you're straining to see the de facto focal points, which just don't ever materialise.

Hope that helps?
