When I was new to modding I modded the whole startup to supply a greeting...it gets old fast, trust me. On the subject of 8 cores, wow! But the cynic in me wonders how long it will take for most software to take advantage?

Yonah, Penryn, Nehalem...The chip names are really getting supercool...a long way from "Northwood" and the like...

Sort of, the cores are using on-die interconnects to talk to each other now if that's what you mean. Intel Quick Connect = AMD HyperTransport

If it means less fiddling around with straps for memory dividers when overclocking then I'm all for it!

yep, but there will be an 8-core product launched in 2008. That's 8 cores on a single die based on what Otellini said, not SMP like I reported here: http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2007/09..._smp_working/1

Don't forget the silicon was only taped out three weeks ago, so Intel hasn't got a dual-die chip working yet. But Otellini has said it'll happen.

The chips on show are only quad-core versions.

It's a new version of hyperthreading, but it's not been given a name yet.
