ram ratios

Hello,
I've had my pc setup for a while now, but today I read something that made me question if I understand how to properly overclock so I was wondering if someone could clear something up for me.
Is running at a 1:1 ratio better than any other ratio? Or do you simply want to go for max speed with the ram and the ratio doesn't matter?

Thanks!

ccsharry has yet to learn the way of the Dremel
1:1 or above (i.e. 1600Mhz RAM:1066Mhz CPU) all works well, just the fact dat if you can run the ram faster, why don't you run your cpu fsb faster to match 1:1?

i cant get it any faster. I'm already pushing 65c at a full load so any more and it gets too hot.
Cant remember what the fsb is at or the voltage (I'm at work) but I lowered the voltage to its min and I just cant get anymore without a better cooler.
At least I think thats the problem anyway.

edit:
that being said, should I bring the ram down from around 1100mhz (or whatever its actually at, i think its 1088) to a slower speed and try to lower the timings?
