Microsoft makes IE7 available to all

http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2007/10...lable_to_all/1

In a move that some might construe as being an attempt to gain back some precious market share, Microsoft is releasing an IE7 build to all Windows XP and Server 2003 users.

IE7+IE7Pro gets the job done for me. Used to be an Opera user but this works fine to be honest...IE7Pro includes most of the things I liked about Opera (including mouse gestures).

IE7 is STILL not fully W3C compliant. I have developed a few pages recently, and IE7 SUCKS when it comes to CSS.

Firefox all the way.

This confuses me somewhat, why do this? Surely all this shows is "don't bother buying Windows as one day we will give updates to you anyway".

Still if most people use iexplore then you'll have to make the site IE7 compliant, somehow.
The 'Security Zone Model' is still a joke and why do you need ActiveX anyway. Most people click and have clicked on any box popped out stating 'you need this .... to proceed'. Mostly found on warez and p0rn sites but who cares, I want the content. The zones have been restricted by microsoft, this just helps a little bit.

Firefox 2... memory eater, but... who cares . iexplore starts faster and I don't know how well it handles 36 tabs though needless to say: I surf with FF. (No experience with Opera, Safari.)

No, its a comment directed at the article. IE7 came through windows update (And was available to download from MS's site) almost a year ago. I can't see how this is news, unless I'm missing something huge?

Edit: Ahh, they took out WGA validation, still not really anything to shout about seeing as everyone should have a legit version of windows anyway..

and it was hardly rocket science if WGA put up a fuss

I wonder if they could use this to see people who dont have legit copys, if everyone suddenly downloads IE7 there is going to be a big spike

Simple answer, testing browser compatibility without the need for bootcamp or parallels.

Mmmm of course yes. of course.
I doubt it will come out, like Sam0r already wrote.
Since IE5 has been withdrawn there was no news about IE for Mac.

I wonder how many people are using IE6 on a legit windows xp copy.
