Rumour: Nvidia to re-introduce GeForce 8800 GTS

http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2007/10...rce_8800_gts/1

Nvidia is apparently getting ready to release an updated version of the GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB with more stream processors enabled.

Well, your a little hopefull, thats how companies work, release something, work on it and make it better and then release more varients. And with the way technology evolves, you just have to keep up. The GTX will come down in price, but i don't know when.

meh, my x1950 still works fine for me. I'll do an upgrade early next year when (hopefully) prices have dropped and newer hardware is out to look at.

Thats all good and well but with a poorly supported Dx10 (not from want of trying I bet). The question is when I imminently upgrade will it rip rip the tits off the next 6 months of top quality games FULL BORE on a 22" monitor? because thats what I want to know.

An improved 8800 GTS 640mb might just be the card I'm looking for, maybe we'll have to see when it gets here I suppose.

Am I wierd to want a card able to run all current games well and be able to run everything pretty well for the next year or two when I spend £200 or so ? My 7800GT did that, and it still runs just about anything that isn't DX10 based decently now, so I just don't feel the urge too strongly unless I can get a DX10 card that would do the same for the next two years or so.

The current 8800 GTS 640mb just doesn't seem to have much headroom in it, which makes me think its not the card for me right now.

What was the card on the far left of the picture? It seemed to go from right to left with increasing memory and stream processors, so is that the 8800gt?
The cooler on the "8800gt" does look sweet if that is actually it.

Redbeaver will become famous soon enough
time to wait if performance and heat is any difference then even if its not any faster at all, if it runs cooler and quieter, it might just worth stepping up my GTS just to get that 1-slot cooler rather than the 2-slot jet-engine i have now....
