I'm not really sure if the horizon is straight, there's too much in the way to tell but here's a slightly rotated version:

Without a true horizon, it's very difficult to tell if the photo is really straight. The first image has a slight lean to the left, but I thought it was the landscape sloping slightly. Some of the trees in the background appear straight, but then again trees tend to grow any which way they please.
My personal opinion (for what it's worth): I like the first one. This is a great shot. The quality of light coming in through the leaves is very pleasant. The warm light and the long shadows give me a feeling of evening. It is the end of the day, just as Autumn metaphorically signals the coming of the end of the year. Peter Jackson made similar use of this effect in Fellowship of the Ring. Rivendell was photographed using warm, Autumn colors to signify the end of the Elves' time in Middle Earth. This is why I think color photography can be more complex than black and white. Color can add a whole new dimension to an image, and I think you've made very good use of it here. -monkey

Thanks Monkey, means a lot. Amazingly I took this around 1pm and I only boosted the reds by about 20%, the Sun seems to be doing strange things around here at the moment. Definitely can't complain with some of the photo's I've been getting recently.
Cute kid by the way

I really like it, great shot. I think the reason it seems to lean is more because of the light than it being that un-level. Good job, I look forward to see more

One side seems too bright compared to the other, but its pretty cool. Any chance you can post the original, unedited image?

As I said before, this was a very nice shot. Congratulations on the win, and great choice for the theme.
