it's very flat and lacking in contrast, and i'd rather see it composed as a final shot then cropped to suit.

on the plus side you've managed to convey the meaning of the shot very clearly which is often a very difficult thing to do

I think it could use a brightness/contrast boost, say +6 Brightness +25 Contrast in PS?

Edit: note, I did that in PS; it looks good, I'm just lazy and didn't upload it.

That is amazing. I can't believe that anyone in their right mind would cut down a tree like that without the tree being sick? But they should at least plant a new one ASAP.

To me that's a great and somewhat witty illustration of moral decay.
