Homebrew WiFi-to-3G router

If you've got a Windows Mobile smartphone then you might just be interested in some software to turn it into a WiFi-to-3G router for emergency 'net connections.

That's pretty cool. Although you can plug any Windows Mobile phone in via USB and access the net that way, but I suppose that's not the point, is it? Wireless is ALWAYS cooler.

I just had a thought. If you carry one of these around, you can have that 3G connectivity that your iPhone has been yearning for

Now would that not be fantastic, using a Windows mobile product to get an Apple Iphone connected....

nahh if you'd bought an iPhone you'd be too much of a braindead moron to get that to work.

I think it's about time I got an unlimited data package for my phone (Orange m700). Hmmm.

@ Strangelove - Yes that was the irony I was going for

Also that requires activesync to be installed on the PC as well

I've actually been using this software for a few months, on the exact same phone pictured in the article (HTC Kaiser/TYTN2)

I mainly use it for testing laptop's wifi connections at work, as there is no wireless networks here (i'm on a IT helpdesk)

works very quickly, tend to average about 300kb/sec on downloads through it (<3 HSDPA)

Unfortunately, there isnt an unlimmited data package with orange
Other wise it would be seriously expensive (orange m600)

Saw this on On10.net the other day. Will definitely try it when I get my XDA Orbit 2 (original Orbit's dead atm ) and unlimited data package.

I thought Orange did an £8 anytime data with fair usage up to 4Gb? I can't see myself using 4Gb of data on a phone when I have 8meg broadband at home. Although I did wonder about using the phone for web browsing when I'm downloading stuff via torrents on my cable connection since that slows everything down to an unusable level.

It works via bluetooth/cable to my Powerbook - no need for activesync
