Windows 7 build leaked?

http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2008/01...build_leaked/1

A poster to Neowin's Windows Beta forum claims to have a pre-release build of Microsoft's next-generation operating system installed on his laptop, and offers a mini-review.

There is also this that indicates that MS may be moving Windows 7 up a year. So, anyone here want to buy it to be an alpha tester?

Well windows vista for me has been looked at nothing more but a stepping stone to the next windows OS, so I have been real hesitant to make the full switch to Vista, I only have one system running Vista for my dx10 games, the rest are XP and will probably remain that way until Windows 7 or Vienna or whatever the name ends up being comes out as thats expected to have a very long shelf life, twice that or more compared to XP but we will see. Also finally making the big push to 64bit OS only will be nice in the long run as well.

I will be getting two copies of Vista 64bit, mainly to utilize the 4GB of RAM that I am i upgrading to, plus the DX10 applications. So I hope they wont come out with a new OS so soon, from what I have head a lot of people have had problems with Vista, but not as bad as ME, and I have had experience with ME. Any speculation on to new features of 7?

Take a look at OS X and you'll have a good idea as to what "innovations" MS is going to include.

I agree MS is prone to "copying" off of Apple and Linux. I don''t mind though, if Microsoft came out with a barebones OS just for games, no flashy graphics, just optimized for games I would be happy with that. I use Linux for everything except games anyway.

Microsoft have been stealing ideas from other operating systems since Windows 95 (e.g. the right-click menu was stolen from Acorn's RISK OS), it's hardly new. I'm unsure whether Microsoft is going to push Windows 7 out like this, it could well end up being more of a SP for Vista.

Yeah, but that doesn't stop them being broken. An NDA is really just a contract that holds very little legal water, after all.

For Vista, just make sure you have the latest BIOS version installed, and latest driver ready.
64-Bit Vista seams superior in stability and in bugs (less of them) then it's 32-bit. They are many bugs reported on the internet that I read, that I simply just cannot see in Vista 64-bit. From that conclusion, I must say that Microsoft seams to have have worked hard on the 64-bit and opt to make a 32-bit adaptation about at the last minute or so.

If you have devices that ack Vista or 64-bit Vista drivers, look in the OS driver list. Microsoft did their own from some products. For example, I have an HP Laserjet 1012 printer, and HO suggest to me to install a driver from an other HP printer, and I'll have the printer running in reduce function. (anything other then Notepad will result on the second page with "Invalid PCL personality" (or something like that) error printed on a blank page, and printing stopped. I was pissed, and started to look around, and I found in the Hardware Driver List, "LaserJet 1010 series (MS) driver". I installed them, and now my printer works like under WinXP! It's been several weeks now, and I print a lot of stuff, and I never had any problem, and all the features are there.

SO you may want to check that out too.

Other then that, and me never buying anything from HP again from now on, I am very happy with Vista, My games works just as good as under WinXP. Al thus benchmark test show contrary on some websites, it doesn't reflect reality. I compared several games from Orange Box to Crysis and The Witcher. Some games run 5-10 fps faster, and some run 1-2 fps slower, and I don't know if it just because the environment or how I was positioned changed anything. Sure I don't have Quad 30inch LCD's. I just have a 17inch CT that I run at 1600x1200@85Hz, with high or near high settings in games.

If you actually USED Windows Me, you will see that Windows Vista is far from it, and it IS far superior in all aspects over WinXP (other then using slightly more resources, and have a slower boot-up, but who actually shut-down their computer?! I just set it to deep sleep when I really don't need it, and I know I'm not going to use it soon)

Windows Me, (I was a user of it), used to constantly crash in the setup, and if you managed to run your computer for 24hours without explorer crashing, that was luck. Moreover, about anything you accessed was unpolished, and bugs right in your FACE! And sometimes for no reason, Widows Me lost your connected device and lost it's drivers. And you are sating that Windows Vista = Windows Me... pfff, download a copy of Windows Me, and you will take everything back and go on every single thread, and start apologizing, as you will see that Windows Me is soo bad that it begged for apocalypse.

As far as I know, Windows XP pre-SP, was closer to WinMe then anything else.

Back to subject,
As far as I see it, Windows 7 seams to be very close to a Vista SP2 then anything. Of course time will tell, but that is how I see it.
Windows Vista is finally started to be adapted, and many industries just wait for SP1 before mass-spreading the OS to all their computers. If you say that many companies require major system update to have Windows Vista, that is a lie. For one they can install Windows Basic which is a nice on old hardware, and secondly you sure won't need it.

What Microsoft fails to see is that updating Windows is not like updating a peace of software. It takes A LOT of time. And Vista update is WAAAAYY better then Windows XP update edition, but still is far from perfection (so yes, I discourage Windows Vista update, but it is acceptable on a newly installed WinXP machine, with a clean registry).

Simpsons did it!!

I think Vista works great. Seems very stable to me and I know quite a bit of people that are running Vista on their laptops without problems.

I really doubt Vista is just going to get thrown aside. ME never really worked. Vista works.

But who knows for sure! I'm just glad I'm a student so I can get free vista.

@Sheilder

If that link you gave us contains a real photo of what is the new windows.
I am going to be really depressed.

Because that screen shot looks a lot like a mac desktop.

And I hate mac. With a passion.
