Wolfking Warrior XXtreme

http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/200...rior_xxtreme/1

The Warrior XXtreme could be the best gaming keyboard solution we've ever seen, but the only way to tell is to go hands on with it and see how it handles. We give the new Warrior a full battery of gaming tests to see if it's worth the dosh or not.

The RHS reminds me of these keyboards we have at work for the special needs kids, the keys are all perfectly lined up - although still a QWERTY layout its incredibly confusing to use.

naokaji will become famous soon enough
while such special layouts might work for fps games that use a very low number of keys i dont think it will be any good for rts or rpg's (and even less my fav mmorpg eq2).
why?

because condesing the low number of keys used in fps games does make sense, but if you have some function you use on pretty much every key of a normal keyboard then i dont think theres a need for a special layout.

Unfortunately, something that slowly dawned on me was that most RPG games require gamers to make use of the keyboard and the mouse – which is the same as most other games, so the XXtreme doesn’t really add anything. All the XXtreme brings to the situation is that the keyboard is made circular and thus more keys are made accessible – unfortunately, the right hand side of the XXtreme arranges those keys in a way which is neither familiar nor ergonomic.
I play MUDs,a lot, which are in essence MMORPGs, but text based, so no use for the mouse. And even if it seems like this keyboard is catered for that kind of game, I doubt it will work. The key layout is FPS based (WASD), while most MUDs use NWSE to move around. So it seems like it's a badly manufactured, useless gimmick.

I'd disagree with the manafacture - it feels very sturdy and well made.

Who's hands are those in the pictures?

Their nails look wonderful darling, just wonderful.

Now, as for the product itself....I'd just go for the single one tbh.

QFT. How many games require you to have both hands on the keyboard nowadays?

You should be proud of your unusally large nail bed on your pinkies Archangel, you must give me the number of your manacurist.

Come now, don't be shy!

It's called "cut nails only when actually long enough to cause physical pain".

On a more related topic: this keyboard is really uncomfortable to use.

Actually if the right hand side had macro buttons I'd be happy to cut one of these up and use only that side - being a lefty it's the only way I'd ever use WASD (I currently remap as much as I can to the number pad and I find the lined up keys much easier to locate by feel than those on the Fang gamepad I no longer use).

I am a gamer who competes at TF2 and I am serious considering this keyboard.

Why?

Because I see this potentially replacing my entire keyboard.

But wait, what is my entire keyboard? Check this out: http://www.dansdata.com/edkb.htm
I picked up the beige one on ebay about 1.5 years ago for about $20. It had a very steep learning curve, but i do not regret it. The reason I want to replace it is that it is wearing out.

I am in love with small keyboards, I am glad that I do not have to deal with numeric keypads any more at all. It also affords me the ability to use the massive steelpad mousepad I won at lanageddon last year.

I would seriously consider this (XXtreme) keyboard as a replacement, as it affords me the ability to type sentences, while minimizing the footprint on my desk. This was one of the shortcomings of the original Warrior, because I could not type full sentences back.

Oh, also a note. Considering this is a "Gamer" keyboard, I am appauled that bit-tech did not do any testing to show the number of simultaneous keys pressed, or any sort of actual physical limitations of the keyboard itself. Or testing if the USB ports are powered (or not), etc. This seems more like a summary of the device and brief usage of such with commentary on how "comfortable" it was.

While this can be useful, it only goes so far to serve the public.

Please bit-tech, consider more thorough reviews for "Gamer" keyboards.

correction, "seriously" instead of "serious" in the first post. (Why can't we edit recently posted comments?)
