Gizmondo back from the grave

http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2008/01...om_the_grave/1

The Gizmondo PMP, which famously failed and ended with a company founder jailbound, is to launch itself to market once more. Yay?

if the GP2X is not a big competitor today, how do these guys think the Gizmondo will survive?

The original didn't survive in a market dominated by Nintendo, how do they expect a new version to survive in a market still dominated by Nintendo - a market that even Sony is having difficulty breaking into.

well, if i look at the picture in the article i see a device i would expect to find on a chinese market for sub 5£....

maybe just maybe its cheap plastic appearance had something to do why it didnt sell for 230£.

This is most definitely a niche market. For people like me that want a handheld capable primarily of emulation and multi-format video playback, we already have the excellent GP2x, which by the way retails for around £125. The Gizmondo will need to have to have a pretty impressive feature set to justify the £100 premium!

I read an interview with carl freer that was posted by DLoney in the first news article about the gizmondo http://sandberghans.blogspot.com/200...-gizmondo.html , was pretty interesting, the new gizmondo looks a lot nicer as well, more like a psp, and they are talking about selling it for $99 it uses a standard sd card for the games and its open source, i think it has some potential

but there is one thing that interests me in the gizmondo..... the hardware inside it: NVIDIA 128 bit GoForce 3D 4500 GPU and 400 MHz ARM9 processor..... interesting.... if they are able to innovate the console even more, like add a multi touch touch screen.... i can see them growing, but they would still be very short from the level of nintendo and sony.....
