New Scythe cooler pictured

Here

Notice they had to tape the motherboard down and hold the box!

Andy

Edit: and here too.

Thats just getting silly, a P182 or clone with big fans in the corner will give good cooling on a smaller heatsink with out a fan for silence and if you need that much cooling for OCing its time to start thinking water.

Awesome.
Expect to see a load of casemods where the CPU cooler actually extends out the side of the case, and is supported by going through the hole!

Performance does not scale linearly with heatsink size. Look at the GeminII--it wasn't a *bad* cooler, but it can be outperformed by an Arctic Freezer Pro in a lot of situations. Meanwhile, you're incurring massive design problems where you've got to worry about physical stress on your motherboard and case. If you need a slight edge on performance, buy a well-designed air cooler, not an overkill air cooler. And if that's not enough, go to water cooling.

I'd imagine this cooler performs decently, but I don't think it's going to drop any jaws.

At 1150g in weight, it's not exactly practical for most people. The amount of strain it would put on the motherboard; I dread to think.
Uhhhh....yeah! Come on, that's ridiculous! 1150g?! You even just touch the eject button on the ROM drive, and the cooler snaps the cpu and the surrounding components off the friggin' mobo!

...yea, but just look at the size of that CPU cooler, it has to perform well.

Well, size isn't all that matters. Any maybe the owner is compensating?

With coolers getting like this it seems like we're closing on a time when cases should be supporting the cooler and the mobo can just hang, as opposed to vice versa.
