p45? me wants. P35 was the best chipset since the legendary bx440, it will be interesting to see how intel wants to improve that.

Why would you ever need/want 14 SATA connections on a motherboard? That is insane, and without RAID really stupid.
I will probably end up regretting this in 10 years like Bill and his 640K of ram

![]() Areca uses Intel's RAID processors, so I suppose it isn't impossible for intel to plop one on a motherboard. Something tells me its not ever going to be on a desktop board mind you. I don't see the point of so many onboard SATA ports either. Just marketing, can't see anyone ever using them. Now, if they could implement a zero-channel RAID like on some server boards, it would be great. |

It's not Intel's doing it's MSIs and it's a basic Silicon Image chipset - even though it'll be the high end Diamond, MSI aren't stupid enough to price themselves outside the market.
Anyone else think ICH10R's Six SATA is a bit ****? I'm gonna lay into them tomorrow morning in the press conference. |

Technically Intel chipsets can run SLI now but the nVidia drivers check for the presence of an nVidia chipset before enabling SLI. Give Intel SLI & nVidia lose a big chunk of revenue (iirc on launch 680i chipsets cost mobo manufacturers $140 each). Perhaps Intel aren't willing to pay the royalty per chipset that nVidia reckon they need to replace that income? |

i think it's fine, doesn't the current ICH9R have have 6 SATA ports? *looks at iP35 Pro* see, 6 internal via southbridge, and 2 external via another controller
