Army of Two

http://www.bit-tech.net/gaming/2008/03/13/army_of_two/1

Could it be? A decent co-op focused shooter for living rooms everywhere? Looks like! Army of Two is the new console shooter from EA which has enough gameplay for two players and a fistful of attitude. We check it out to see how fun it is.

I tried playing this last night with Hiren in co-op and the checkpoints are awful, the hitboxes up close are awful but the weapon mods gave us a half hour discussion and the level design isn't that bad. I'd have to say, given the frustration last night, Kayne and Lynch was better two player action :/

We'll see how the rest of it turns out..

Bling AK47!

Yeah it was pretty wrong that the weapon mods was the highlight of the game. The checkpoints are just so damn far apart it's frustrating. My biggest grip is the lack of response when trying to perform co-op moves such as heal or co-op shield.

I was actually dissapointed by the in game graphics compared to the media we were presented with, yes it looked good but it felt washed out.

The second gripe I have it that it feels sluggish in game, turning to fire at an enemy is awkward and back to back feels like it's mega slo-mo.

Finally, I'm still pissed off by the region locking and even EA reps don't know why :s

Ok, so other than this seeming to be a distillation of much of what is wrong with gaming today; the statement above points to the developers being... insane! Why would you region lock the multiplayer in a multiplayer game?

Because you don't want to play on American or Asian servers where the pings are ****? What's wrong with only playing in Europe?

I agree - back to back is a little crap and getting the aim when an enemy is running is a frustration.

Doesnt sound like a game Id be interested in to be honest... especially as its 3rd person rather than 1st person from a field of view perspecitve.

The review didnt touch up the multiplayer aspects (or is it just the same missions played CO-OP over MSLIVE / PSN) ? ie. there isnt any other form of multiplayer.

There's no deathmatch if that's what you mean, that would be cool, there's only 2v2 (i.e. two teams of two) objective.

Dunno what you lot are complaining about, the checkpoints are only far apart if you keep dying, played it solid over the weekend with my mate and we enjoyed it it has a sense of GOW which is nice, the weapon mods are fun. I'll admit that the back to back thing isn't too much fun but the rest of it is ok run in heal your buddy then carry on fighting.

I always thought one of the big selling points for online multiplayer games was that you could play with or against anyone, anywhere in the world. To me it doesn't make sense to completely remove the option of playing against people in other parts of the world, when simply sorting the list of servers (or whatever it uses) by location, or ping would work.
