Epic launches on Steam
http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2008/03...hes_on_steam/1
Epic has now officially launched the full catalog of Unreal games over Steam. Seems like thats what all the cool developers are doing nowadays.

And if there games don't sell on steam wait for them to start crying that digital distribution isn't what its cracked up to be.

very interesting and cheap...... it would be interesting to see if steam had an option of buying the CD of a certain game and having it sent to your home for a small premium....

That's every relevent UT game ever for £27? That's not half bad you know. Am tempted now.

Steam is a grerat platform for the games as updates are automatic and there is no need for having the damn DVD in the drive to play the game.
I hate that the most. I payed for it and the people who DL for free don't have to worry about it with no DVD scripts : ![]() But.... When are steam going to realise that they need to drop their prices to below what I can buy an actual DVD copy from Play.com. I'd like digital DL to be the way I buy all my games but even a couple quid will sway me away from it. I mean come on even Asda beats them on price

sounds good for UT3..... except it's in USD.
when Steam puts GBP on their system, i will consider buy it at the right price. come on, 22 pounds for UT3?

So, they're out to prove that PC game sales are dwindling eh?
The proof is not in the baking tray, it's in the pudding, you fools.

Why? The pound is a fair bit stronger than the dollar. With most of the games I've seen on steam that equates to quite a bargain.

A couple of weeks ago this would have been great news, but now who cares about the company who has no interest in PC gaming?

never purchased on Steam, to me, it's too much hassle to work out the exchange rates

Be glad the prices are in USD.
Just buy it on your credit card and then check your statement for a decent deal in UK£ equivalent. No problems with Steam, other than the restricted catalog, plus my ISP caps my downloads at 20GB per month. In fact I bought Orange Box on it. |

Thing is at the moment the games are more expensive when you convert them from USD to GBP and then you need to add tax. Steam UT3= USD44.95 ~= 22.50 + 17.5% vat = ~£26. Play.com UT3 = ~£15. No contest really. Steam used to be good and for valve i think it's still there or there about but for other devs its really quite expensive.

Which means the games can't then be sold or swapped and played online through steam because the key can only be activated on steam once, unless you want to go through steam's reset key rigmarole.

Looks like UT3 might actually realise those potential sales figures after all.
Although at £27 compared to £15 in the shops, hmmmm
