http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2008/03...ck_mmo_film_/1

In a shareholders presentation Take-Two has indicated it may be considering a BioShock MMO and movie.

I gotta say I found bio-shock interesting but all the pant wetting that goes along with it? I liked it an`all and it was but, i just think folk get carried away sometimes.

I did love the atmosphere and the tension of the surroundings which if done well could make for an exceptional and different MMO, scavanging a living in rapture

Agree with that, an MMO in Rapture if done right could be awesome. But Bioshock movie = fail

An MMO would be awesome if done right, splicers scavaging, being able to play as little sisters and big daddies would be pretty cool as well. If they set it during the initial fall of rapture that could be pretty interesting.

The movie I am kind of inbetween on. BioShock played a lot like a movie in some ways and such could be adapted quite well to the big screen, but a lot of it, especially fighting big daddies would take a lot more effort to work well. In short, a movie could work if they put the time, effort, and money into it and not let Uwe Boll have the movie rights. Otherwise move on....

Not exactly the best option for an MMO... one class, one city, everyone has access to the same handful of (admittedly awesome) powers? Bioshock was a great narrative, and there's a reason they made it SP. It was a story of dystopia. It stands alone. Did Orwell write a sequel to 1984? No. Why? Because he got the point across the first time.

Keep it away from Roland Emmerich, Joel Schumacher, Jerry Bruckheimer and Michael Bay.

I wonder if Danny Boyle* would be willing to do it ......

Slightly OT, but I think this movie will be enough, even though I haven't finished the book yet (just started reading the Atlantis-chapter, not much left of the book... oh the agony when I'm done with it) but I'm highly sceptical that they can make the movie as good as the book imho.

Ah yes, I forgot about 'them', lol. It really needs someone that can do "gritty" well without being over the top.

I think the threat of uwe boll is over for those games that aren't already on his books, since the loop-hole in german tax law that allowed for movies to make money by not making any at the box office was closed some time ago (though movies started before it was can still use it till they are done I believe)

An MMO would be crap, a movie is possible but unlikely to be done right. It would need to be gritty and creepy but not the usual survival horror "OMG sudden movement, fire guns! Intense!" crap. But then if people want the story with a cinematic experience, surely they can just play the game?

A movie could be really good if it was the prequel to the game. All the politics etc would be to come across much easier than if you were to run around in a first person perspective.

I have little faith in the sequel, and cell phone games are a joke. I wish they would just leave the franchise alone and move onto something else.

As per MMO games, I only like FPS > and I don't think Bioshock would make a good one. Just think, clans of splicers & Big Daddies running around the halls of Rapture capturing objectives...... nahhh, too claustrophobic. I can only think of a mindless Quake4 match with plasmids.
As per the movie, I think it has a lot of potential depending on who might drive it !!! Maybe a Spielberg - Burton kind of a thing. It can be either a prequel, a sequel or anything that runs along with the game's perfectly tailored original story... Who ever gets involved would have to work closely with 2K so that no details get missed

a bioshock mmo? well, I love the looks of rapture, but i simply dont think it would work out, a movie? well, if they dont let uwe boll touch it.. oh, that has been said before, if they get someone competent to do it like for example Tarantino it would sure be worth it.
