Asus Eee PC 900

http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/200...s_eee_pc_900/1

Finally, the new model of the Eee PC has landed and we've managed to hold onto it long enough to get a review done - but can the new model beat the 700 line just because it has a larger screen and more memory? We find out in our comprehensive review!

Damn I want one so much but over here I will have to pay out of my rear end to get one(taxes are huge in finland).
The lag of bluetooth isnt a problem for me as i never use it at home ether and the webcam upgrade is great as I use mine at home a lot. So for me there isnt really anything to nag about on the EEE other then the price of around 500€ here

Hmmm...the Webcam would be useful for Skype or the like...
Otherwise, let's see how the pricing is going to be. Sounds like a great little gadget to me!

One question though...in the linux version, how quick is it "on" time?
Say from pushing the button till you're ready to look at your first internet page?

So very very tempting... I'm getting quite keen on seeing if my girlfriend wants one for when she's out and about at college / uni.
Part of me wants to wait to see Atom processors fitted though.

Changing the SSD is more money and trouble than it's worth...better just to buy a decent 8Gb or 16Gb SD card or two.
The boot time for the Xandros distribution I've never actualy timed...but it feels like 30-45secs
What I can tell you is that from first lifting it out of the box you can be on google in less than three minutes.

Hey and the linux eee 900 has 20gb which compared to the 4gb in the original is monstrous. I own the original so will wait for the atom one and also see what the competition does to the prices.

I'll wait until the Atom refresh as this doesn't quite feel like a worthy upgrade just yet.

30 seconds or so - assuming you have to stop to enter a password. It takes about 15 seconds to boot. Both of those times are under Linux.

These would be excellent with the mobile broadband USB dongles. I am very tempted to get one along side the eee 900.

The question is, can I wait until the atom version... probably not as I have been resisting the 700 for months.

As I understand it (from reading elsewhere) the 900 has the same 4GB RAM soldered to the mobo as the 700, but Asus have added an SSD to the mix.
The XP version gets an 8GB one, but the Linux one gets a 16GB to keep the price point the same.
I suspect many MS addicts will buy the Linux model & install their own XP on it.

Re: The power brick change, I believe the 900 needs 12V, not the 9.5V 2A that the 700 requires.
Edit: I found a pic of both old & new chargers:-

/me also waiting for Atom, as I can't afford one 'til Xmas anyway.
