The Silverstone MS05 2.5" hard drive enclosure - it may look like a baby photon torpedo, but it's actually a surprisingly decent hard drive enclosure for 2.5" drives. What other tricks does it have up its sleeves? Read on to find out!

Unless this device has tardis like properties and grows by 240mm when you insert it into the docking bay surely you only have 20mm of purchase.

Other than that excellent review but my god that thing is ugly. I much prefer the svelt TS01B than the bulbous MS05.

A photon torpedo hard drive enclosure would be so awesome.

In fact, bit-tech.net, I think that's a modding challenge! (I would if I had the skills!)

I think this is a great idea. And I'm not the only one. Look at HP's recent line of desktops. They have all come with a "Dock" on the front (Though theirs has a spring-loaded door) for an optional removable hard-drive.

This is perfect for keeping your personal data/browsing preferences/porn on, and when you are headed out somewhere you simply undock it and use it as an external USB/ESATA drive at your destination (The parent's place, say - though probably not for the porn).

You could also set it up to be a "System recovery" disk - a larger and more expanded version of a DSL key, say.

Or you could get a few and use them to swap OSs or major software packages or something.

Check out the Tagan IcyBox IB-266StUSD-B.

Same concept: a 2.5" disk enclosure with USB2 and eSATA , and a 3.5" docking station.
However, this one has a flap covering the hole when the disk enclosure is not in.

Furthermore, the Silverstone protrudes from the front of the case, making difficult to close the door on some cases.
The IcyBox is flush with the case. It has a spring loaded mechanism. Push it and the spring ejects the disk from the dock.

This is the newer version of the one I wrote about above. Looks great. Too bad I have the other one, the new one looks better. But the old one works really fine!
