GraniteCase

Hello people!

First i will introduce myself!:

I'm Pieter Veenstra, and i'm 18 years old, and i live in the Netherlands (small shithole) My english is very poor, but i do my best!

I started casemodding when i was 15 years old or something, and this is my second casemod i have made.
My parents have a stone machining company, so thats were the idea came from.
The material coms from Sweden, and is called: Light Labrador, or Bleu Pearl.
The normall price of this stuff is $150 m² not polished or anything.
But i got it for free

As far as i know there is no other computercase made from granite in the whole world, so its unique!

I started building my case in January 2006, and on november 2007 it was finaly finished.
I'm already working on this machine for a while now, and i still love him/her.
Actualy i'm posting this thread from the machine

The Hardware:

CPU: AMD Opteron 165 Dual Core (S939)
GPU: ATi Radeon X1800GTO By: Sapphire
Mobo:ECS nForce4 A-939
HD's: Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320gb, Maxtor 80gb (both S-ata)
PSU: BeQuiet 600 watt's
Mem:1536mb DDR1 400mhz

I will not translate everything of my worklog on Gathering.Tweakers.net, and will also not post every picture here.
But it will give you a good idea of the whole working process.
I thought it would be a good idea to post this mod here, so many more people can see my caseconstruction.

Not under every picture is an explenation, but a picture says more than a 1000 words right?

Get a cup of coffee while youre scrolling through my thread...enjoy

I won the 2nd Jury price @ this contest!

And about €650,- of prices!

The PSU is changed already, by a BeQuiet 600watt modulair, and i'm going to change the HD stickers also...
BTW....the final weight of the case is 72kg!
If there are any questions...just ask

Is there a moderator who could change my thread name to: Project: GraniteCase ?
I'm new on this forum...u know :P

Very nice! But GOD :S Why did you use so many 80mm fans? Why not go with 120mm fans?

Also I think you should have used abit more creativity when doing something expensive as this is

But still impressed!

Welcome to the forums mate.

This is one crazy case, in fact I've been wondering when someone does a case out of stone

I just love the mobo tray colors against the granite, that's somehow the most pleasing part of the case to my eye.

Weight is a downside, not exactly a lan case, but hey, at least it shouldn't vibrate much

The only donwside is the weight... the weight of this thread! Took ages to load all the photos

But really nice work! I loved the lights on it!

Have you considered using some wheels on it?

That's definitely something you don't see very often...OK...you don't see that at all. Excellent work mate! I have to second what Darkened said as well; I really love the mobo tray.

I'm a big fan of things a little left field, and a case made from
granite, well thats way left.
But the execution is also top notch and the final result is
beautiful. Five stars.

Thank you for the positive reply's
It's amazing...you guys come from all over the world!

About the 120mm fans;

Well...if you can find a 120mm diamond drill..let me know.
I can't just use a cutting saw to make holes or something...you have to do everything by hand.
The material is to hard for metal tools...it has to be diamond tools.
And i don't like 120mm fans everywhere

About the costs;

I didnt spend a $ on materials...it was just stuff that was laying around in our stockyard, and i loved the colour.
The total cost of this caseconstruction is about $700/$800...ex hardware.

Thanks again for your replies

The material is hard to photograph.
I used a proffesional digital camera, amd a tripod.
IRL the materials is darker then on the photographs
