Akasa Mirage-62

http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/200...-ak-bkcse-02/1

Akasa's Eclipse-62 chassis has been a stalwart in the company's range for a long time now. Today we look at the Mirage-62, which looks strikingly similar to the Eclipse. We find out what's different and whether Akasa has improved on a tried and tested design.

Heh its a tiny bit different to the mirage i've had for a while now - I see they don't include the rather crazy HDD cage that fits to those screw holes to the top right of the CPU as anyone with a real heatsink can't use it

Very nice Harry - I like your writing style.

I wonder why so many companies build these so that they should sit on your left?
My CM690 does it too - the buttons are all the way on the RH corner, so it'll be a nightmare once it's all set up on my right hand side.

I guess it's the price I pay for being right-handed in a sinister world.

A lovely review, welcome to BiT Harry!

That looks like a nice case indeed, although I do quite like doors. Shame about the USB ports and clutter on the RHS, always spoils it imho.

I have a question, that could well just be me going insane.

Is that a hole under the PCI slots in the mobo tray?

I could understand a hold being behind the CPU, for easy removal of rear plates, but under the PCI/PCI-Express slots?

Good review, man, nice to see you quick off the mark for this additional content we heard so much about :B

Yay! hehe I know I've been bugging the guys about the eclipse every time they review an inferior case for these last two years. Good to finally see a good, related one done at least.

By the way, I believe the original eclipse design was created by a small independant firm that realized that there was no way they could keep up with the demand for the design, so sold/licensed it to akasa, which might go some way to explaining the lack of changes to this one.

With my eclipse we installed a 120x40mm panaflo in the rear slot, two more into the roof of the case, with the radiator mounted directly below in the bays at the top via some extra holes and some little brackets my dad made up (using the machine shop where he works on his breaks heh) then the pump into the base of the case. (and the reservoir into the dual floppy bay) We fitted the fans to a controller so we could low-volt them to keep the noise down. It is/was my first attempt at case modding and I'm very happy with it, the case was a joy to work with all the way through.

The base of the case has the standard rubber four feet, but Akasa has also generously provided four coaster wheels if they're more your cup of tea (or like riding your PC down a toboggan run).
But surely if it was a toboggan run you wouldn't need wheels what with the ice and all? :P

It'd be easier than trying to ride it down on rubber feet :B

Unless you rode it on its side, but that might get more uncomfortable >.>

Sod "will it blend?" the world needs to know "will it toboggan?"

So because of the USB ports it has to be on the right hand side of the desk, but then the door will open towards you and get in the way. Why?

Oh sweet, he's here!

Well done mate, glad to see you got off to such a quick & good start.
I like this case, but i really dont get the USB/audiojack placement. It seems a bit weird to me, especially since reverse-ATX is impossible on this case. A window mod would be utterly useless.

I really like your writing style. Not a single review I have read where someone brought up the door, and why people don't like it.
