Thats what the OP is talking about setting up , either for autocad or one of the other programs being discussed.

I use a surfacing program to get the basic shape of what i want, be it 3dsmax or sometimes sculpting in zbrush3 depends on what i want, then i shell it using either nx5 or solidworks, to build the inner workings of whatever, so i can make the damn thing, i use Nastran and Pantan fea solutions to simulate and help me optimise my design depending on its purpose, and then i render using a combination of combustion, vray or mental ray depending on my mood, accessibility of material, what level of detail i need (for instance when someone says photo-realistic i will use a lot of normal mapping). and then photoshop.

Sometimes i just cut the **** and i just use alias sketch book to import my concepts straight into a surfacing program, and go from there.

I would NOT have that kind of patience...kudos to you! =)

I think I should talk to the current owner of the SCC and see if he'd be willing to expand his site. Otherwise, I can see what I can throw together. Besides, I have a bunch of web hosting space kicking around

Yeah, I'm interested, though of course the name will be outdated!

Does everyone think the current categories cover everything?
Any other changes to the site that anyone would suggest?
EDIT: Please post your suggestions over at http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthrea...58#post1746958

Computer Aided product design actually :P Bsc is indeed the only way. I feel instead of learning french i should be learning Chinese. btw www.core77.com

btw patience isn't needed, because if you want to actually get good results, photorealistic renders or want to show off, that's the only process i would use. it gives you complete freedom in the form of the shape, whilst you can still actually solve the problem which is what you are employed to do, the aesthetics of the thing is purely down to how you represent the idea, and frankly if you don't follow the process, your design will look crap.

I use inventor too, and a repository of accurate components would be a damn fine thing.

Thought I'd update and say that I started the ICR - Inventor Component Repository (http://www.connec.co.uk/icr/), it's taken off pretty well and currently there are ~20 items

Would be good to get more people on-board though
