EVGA GTX 280 Superclocked
http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/200...superclocked/1
We take a look at a pre-overclocked GTX 280 from EVGA. Can it provide enough extra grunt to justify the extra cost, in an already highly competitive graphics market? We grab the bit-tech benchmarking rig and find out!

i'm with johnnyboy there, but i wonder what the partners will be able to do with the 4870...that said, hopefully they can do more than what evga did with this 280, as to me its a bit of a waste of time when you can probably get that much out of oc'ing your stock card anyways. nice article harry, shame that the product appears to be a loser from the word go imo.
peace fatman

I wait for the 280GT version, I don't want to get f*cked again with the very expensive 8800GTX 7xxmb and 3 months later a 8800GT (faster and cheaper, less power, die shrinked)

Also -> If you keep your card overclocked for many years the chances of it dying eventually are quite high - had stuff for years OCed and it's not died, at what OC% or time limit does it eventually become quite high? eg. EVGA are guaranteeing this OCed 280 card for ten years

No american in their right mind would pay $660 for this card, but we are expected to in the UK.
£323 may well be cheaper than they were a few weeks ago, but its still a rip off. Also... How badly priced is this at Scan.... £375 and £364 at overclockers. Wow... Just Wow. Way to go ebuyer for pricing less than the others, but its still overpriced. |

More on the pricing:
You can pick up a stock GTX for £10 - 20 cheeper than the article indicates at overclockers. http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...odid=GX-018-PV

i find it pretty disgraceful that they they can market this as "superclocked" when its only got a 3% increase, thats not super, its pretty much just an anomaly.
some people are gonna see that online go "wow superclocked that must be incredible, thats worth my extra money" then wonder why its hardly better than the normal one, placebo effect will always help though |

EVGA do the 'Super Clocked' version (@2286/621) overclock, and also an SSC (Super Super Clocked version @2322/648)... I wouldnt believe it myself if I didnt just see it at Scan. Yep... they really called it Super Super Clocked. OMG. I believe that BFG's GTX OCX version runs at 2400/665 which outclasses Superman above LOL! Plus its only £317 compared to the SC EVGA card at £375 (Scan prices right now) |

With the HD 4870 X2 coming up soon... I can't really see why you'd invest *at this particular time* in a 280 GTX. I'm not /bashing/ nVidia's cards but rather stating that the 4870X2, which provides extremely good performance as well, *may* make it worth your while to wait either to... A) Buy the 4870 X2 or B) Wait on nVidia to cut their price on the 260/280 to counter X2. ATI has always been the one to undercut nVidia in terms of price/performance value so hopefully both nVidia and ATI fans will benefit respectively after its release. Being an Intel "fanboy" of sorts (Intel chipset/CPU) the ATI line-up is more appealing to me, I'm still irked that nVidia's SLi doesn't support "unbalanced" setups such as ATI has done for quite a long time now (eg. buy a 4870 now, while you wait for the X2, pop the X2 in and CrossFireX it with the 4870), at least it allows you to "stagger" your GPU upgrades.

not a bad card value wise. If it does break you will get a free one in a few years time. £330 then will buy alot of graphics card id think.

I'm happy with mine too, completely destroys 1280x1024, although by years end it should have to handle 1920x1200 or 1680x1050 instead.

There has been too little too late when it comes to graphics cards recently. Why the flooding of various models and die shrinks? I know they are in the process of transitioning to smaller manufacturing process, but this is a bit much. We are supposed to fund their research upfront it seems.

I hate these cards! Got 13 of them in this week because of overheating. Didnt get more than a few secs into 3dmark06 with some of them, before they reached 120 degrees (celcious)
