Nehalem likely to launch at 3.2GHz

IDF FALL 2008: After playing with many of the Nehalem machines dotted around IDF, it looks like the fastest Intel Core i7 processor at launch will be clocked at 3.2GHz.

This is months-old news - 2.66GHz and 2.93GHz normally priced chips, 3.2GHz 'Extreme Edition' (or 'Idiot Edition' as I prefer) for launch.

They currently claim a 130W TDP for all three processors but I suspect they snuck in a lot of headroom in that, perhaps for the Turbo function?

Doesn't it just turn off unused cores and redirect power to the used ones? If eg your game is only designed to use 2/4 cores or something...
