Asus G70

http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2008/08/28/asus-g70/1

The Asus G70 gaming laptop is one of the most spectacular looking laptops we've ever seen, boasting SLI graphics cards and all manner of cool features. But can it stand apart in the hardware and gaming performance tests as well though?

Has Mr Butler had any experience as a mail-order catalogue model?

No, I didn't think so either.

The laptop looks nice. Not one for gaming laptops though.

I think the 1080P sticker is related to the HDMI output.

i agree with stompy, that it will be refering to the HDMI, but like all asus laptops there will be models with different res screens

absolutely, having said that though, i would probably plump for the 1440x900 should i want such a huge laptop. Makes that 8700M go a little further i reckon.

Laptops like this are often used in Web 2.0 presentations and so on.
Its probably because they need an absolute beast of a laptop to run it on, because of using so much javascript. Seriously am I the only one that doesn't want my apps to run in javascript? I much prefer to keep my documents, presentations and spread sheets locally with local software.

hmm.... i am wonder why they are using the 8700M SLi, when the single 9800M is a lot more powerfull, and possibly more energy efficient.

Given the current level of mobile gfx cards, 1440x900 is the ideal resolution to cover all games out there....1080p is still too much for 9800GTM Sli mobile gfx to handle comfortably, especially when a game doesnt work with Sli.

Much like my comment on the SLI news, the thought of saying 'this is amazing its got SLI' when its two 8700's ... most of the time ONE of which will be used is shocking performance compared to a single 9800 gtx?

Gorgeous laptop - IMO one of the best looking out there atm... and more than enough gaming power for myself - shame about the price though (I have < £1000 for a laptop atm...)

Wow... $3000 and a crappy ass LCD that I can find in $500 laptops from Wal-Mart? Great gaming rig there Asus. Hell, my 4 year old Acer has a 1680 x 1050 native display and it didn't cost anywhere near $3000. Hey Asus, time to change your calendars, it's not 2005 anymore.

I'm afraid I'm not the apple kind of guy ... I would have gone for a Dell or a Vaio, but I think I'll save up for a few more months and get the new Thinkpad (Discount because my uncle's friend just got a job there )
