First Look: Enermax Revolution 85+ PSU

http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/200...ution-85-psu/1

We take a quick look at Enermax's spangly new power supply that will replace the popular Galaxy DXX range later this year. It has an 80Plus Silver award already, as well as a few new features but does it deserve to be called the Revolution?

The most important question for me is, can it run four 4870's?

By that I mean, are there physically enough connectors for it?

Yes there are eight 6+2-pin connectors.

Not that you'll find a motherboard with 8 slots (unless you watercool and go single slot 4870)

£200 is a lot to drop even for a 1000w unit....... but for its size, and build quality, it may be worth it.

i thought a guy mentioned a cheaper 850w? how much will that be?

A good addition to the market. Smaller than the Galaxy, that is always good.

as a bystander of the 1kw market, i personally would never have bought the galaxy because it has a 80mil fan on it, now, i would as they have gone to 13.5mm only, which as Richard said is very quiet. Of course you'll pay a premium for their top product, same with any other company so thats a no brainer for me or anyone who wanted 1kw of efficient, quiet power imo.

As for enermax's local rma, they are awesome. I delt with them on my enermax 620 or 650, cant remember whats in the machine but either way, called up, minimal wait for a representative, 2 min convo as i told him that the psu beeped at me, he gave me the address and emailed the rma, 20 mins later the psu was in the post and i had it back 2 days later (they turned it around on day of receipt...awesome!) so for uk'ers its a very good service from my experience. 5 yrs would be better, as it also helps with resale value, but then again, if you are a 1kw user, you'll be limited by the number of gpu's ati and nvidia put on a card as you'll have no more gfx slots to fill right now and therefore wont need more than 1kw of power.

peace

fatman

Enermax is far too expensive, the corsair 1kw psu costs much less.
Sorry, it had to be said.

I think we need to see some tests of efficiency at the lower end of the power scale. A test of 10-20% load would simulate an idle computer, the state which most computers are in for the majority of time.

I remember the MSI K9A diamond board had the proper PCIe spacing for 4x 4870 dualies

Halleluja Jesus Christ

By the way, the unit you guys photographed looks like it's got more than a few nicks and bangs. A heavily circulating press model, I'm guessing?

Bought one of these last week largely on the basis of the CPC reviews and general awards won ... so dissappointed !

Was using a RealPower Pro 1250 which has been working fine on my rig for the last 6 months, I have just updated a few components and the fan noise / heat bugged me a bit so I decided to upgrade the PSU aswell . . and it doesn't work, nor doesthe repelacement . . . retested with the RealPower and that's as happy as Larry . . . so def the PSU

Infact a bit of further digging has revealled this PSU has some serious incompatability issues especially with EVGA Classified. I am running Rampage Extreme II with i7-965, 12Gb and Cross Fire HD4870X2s but getting same cold boot problem, with it tripping out after about 1 second into boot up.

BIOS update hasn't helped either . .am currently chasing up with technical head at Enermax to see what the problem is and if a solution exists . .

But for now all I'd say is do some digging before you buy and check if your set up has known probs with this PSU . .
